review 1: A very dark, urban horror story. I call it an urban horror story because of it's realistic depiction of drug abuse and addiction, growing up and living in a setting with little hope for a better way of life and how social services may play a role in both as a capacity for assistance as well as a sense of fear felt by those who may need that help. Sad and thought provoking. A highly recommended read by an author who has first hand experience.
review 2: Milk-Blood by Mark Matthews is not your typical horror story. Where most times you read a horror story knowing in the back of your mind that what you are reading is not possible that is not the case with this story. This story is so real and happens so often and that is the scariest part about this book to me.
... more Rape, drug addiction, murder, mental illness, malnutrition, poverty, a child born without a decent chance in life and the list goes on and it all takes place on one street among two houses. This was probably one of the saddest but truest stories I have read. less

What a sad book. It was like a train wreck. I couldn't stop reading although it was very disturbing.

This book may be more than I can handle, but I am interested, nonetheless.

Troubling, difficult at times. Had me racing to the end.
