review 1: In keeping with the author's fixation, I must admit that like Clark Rockefeller, I never wear socks either.I enjoyed the book, but kept wondering at the stupidity of the people he takes advantage of while getting what he wants. He is rude and uses people who put up with it far too long, and despite the description of his second wife as being intelligent - she lets him spend hundreds of thousands of her money while he doesn't work and treats her like crap. It is pretty amazing what he got away with.
review 2: Page-turner, that's for sure. A bit unpolished/awkward/repetitive, unfortunately. Also the author has a bizarre obsession with describing the appearance of every woman he interviews or learns about. He doesn't stop reminding you how attractive he finds Sa
... morendra Boss. His contempt for Linda Sohus's appearance is also really obvious, and distasteful given how she was probably the victim of a violent crime. Still, I appreciate that he didn't try to delve too much into the titular character's motivations. People are always looking for why criminals do what they do. And while that makes sense, in the case of someone like Clark Rockefeller (who really should have been caught decades earlier) it's just as important to examine all the societal and cultural mores that allow someone to get away with a long con. And this book is full of interviews that help paint a picture of how people end up fooled. That's also a valuable thing to study. less
