review 1: Book Review: The Naked TruthThe Naked Truth is an autobiography written by Marvelyn Brown. The book provides insights on her life, and the struggles she’s been through. The book was an enjoyable read. Being a teenager, I was able to relate to her stories in a way that I couldn’t in other books designed for young adults. She talks about high school drama, relationships, sex, family problems, partying and internal conflicts. All of which teenagers and young adults go through and can relate to. There were times where I could empathize with the author, and there were times where her situations and outcomes gave me hope for things in my life.Marvelyn Brown’s life is based around teaching young adults about HIV/AIDS. Her book did just that. No, it wasn’t all facts, but t... morehere were a couple moments throughout the book where she explains certain things about HIV. The book shows what it’s like living with HIV. It doesn’t portray an average person living with HIV, but this is an autobiography. The book taught myself that I need to think before I do things. Marvelyn contracted HIV by someone she trusted and loved. Countless of times she says throughout the book that she wishes she wasn’t so stupid at the time and used protection. Teens are known for rebelling and doing what they please, but when it comes to health, they need to pay attention because even the littlest things can affect you for the rest of your life.
review 2: I really believe that this book can relate to anyone who doesn't know a lot about HIV/AIDS. It read very fast and included enough information to really help people understand. I feel like it should be in the Young Adult section and required reading for teens. Her story is so sad but I think that a lot of teens go through very similar things. I wasn't really impressed with the way she handled her job situations. You would think that someone who really had to have medical insurance in order to live would do anything she could to keep it, but she just threw it away. Hopefully she's learned since then and the people with HIV who read her book are more responsible with their insurance. less
