review 1: I liked this book the more I read it, and I did glean some useful ideas from reading it. I have decided to make a journal of "happy moments" each day (hope I can keep it up) and a picture to go with it each week. Some quotes I loved are:Happiness is both a choice and a skill that we can learn. In the end, we all create our own inner space.Do any of us really know much about the long-term effects of our actions on any one person? We don't get to tinker with our lives, ultimately, they are what they are.Look, I am going to be uncomfortable and die soon no matter how I act, I might as well behave with dignity.Happiness is a way of satisfying daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly routines.Find three things to enjoy EVERY day.
review 2: I haven't finished this yet, but
... moreI can already tell this will be one of my favorite books. Mary Pipher came to "fame" with Reviving Ophelia, but was undone after 10 years of writing and travel. Fame & fortune can be hell for folks who find family, friends and work to be sufficient. She has a quiet sense of humor and delves back 3 generations into both sides of her family to come to terms with her own history how it might effect her life and behavior. I was engrossed. less
