review 1: I loved Sparkly Green Earrings so much I snapped the Antelope in the Living Room up as soon as it was released. Hilariously brilliant description about the compromise of marriage - at least when your married to a Man's Man Texan! Mrs. Shankle is such a gem, I look forward to the next one!Favorite Quotes:"Isn't that what fear does? It grows and magnifies everything to the point where all rational thought is lost and we can only see the city limits of Worst Case Scenario, which borders Crazy Town.""Mr. Right isn't out there. There's just Mr. Right-for-You. He may look totally different from what's right for your best friend. Your marriage is a unique being with as much of its own DNA as you and your husband bring to the table."
review 2: Oh, this book is hyst
... moreerically funny, and filled with some thought-provoking moments too.I've been married for 21 years, we've certainly been through some ups and a lot of downs. Marriage is challenging sometimes. What I loved about this book is that Melanie isn't bashing men, nor is she generalizing (for the most part). She's talking about HER relationship with HER husband, and the differences in how they look at life. And it is laugh-out-loud-funny.There were points as I read this book that I wondered how Melanie and I would get along in real life. I do that with this type of book. I'll be honest about that. I doubt we'd be truly great friends, as we definitely have very different interests. I think we'd get along though. Not sure why I tell you that, except that while I personally don't relate to a lot of her specific struggles with her husband (if I tell my husband my jeans cost $15, it is because they did... and I'm good with $15 jeans), I still found that I could relate to the general ideas. Mostly, probably, because she didn't make statements that made it sound like her specific struggles are universal to all women. less

Cute, but the anecdotal marital metaphors were thin.
