review 1: Though I was a big fan of Melissa in her youth (and mine) and grew up on The Little House On The Prairie books and TV series, this book did nothing to continue keeping me in that fan role. Her whining and droning on over her "tough life" and stupid choices just made me roll my eyes and think "ah, another Hollywood tragedy. Read it. Saw the movie. Next". I wasn't a 'fan' of the way she dished on the other Melissa either, in what seemed more sour grapes than anything meaningful to add. Name dropping, sex, drugs, crisis mode galore, if that's your thing then Melissa will have it in spades for you.
review 2: I read a lot of reviews of this book that complained about her name-dropping, her filthy mouth, and her sexual escapades. Yes,she knows a lot of famous peopl
... moree. She's been acting since she was two, and her family is full of actors. She was also the Screen Actors Guild president. It would be hard to tell her life story without talking about famous people. Besides, isn't that what makes celebrity memoirs interesting? As for the other complaints, they seem to translate to disappointment that she's an actual human being instead of wholesome Half-Pint from tv. She swears a bit, and she slept with a few people. She's still pretty tame by Hollywood standards. The only thing that bugged me about the book was that because it was written in 2009, and it's now 2014, I know that she divorced Bruce Boxleitner and just married Timothy Busfield (apparently she can only marry men whose last names start with B). This made all her "Bruce is my rock, my love, my soulmate" stuff a little weird. Other than that, it was a fun and quick read. less
