review 1: Only giving this book 2 stars because i finished it. But although I finished this book I was rolling my eyes out of irritation the entire time. I seriously can't believe that this lady has absolutely no regrets or shame for what she did. I felt like I was suppose to feel sorry for her because she was young and innocent? Then she repeats her behavior with no shame or regret later in life. I dont know. It kind of made me irritated that she even wrote a book. This was just a "filler" book for me in between others but it wasn't a good choice.
review 2: Before I began reading, I had a preconceived notion about her motives, etc.; however, after reading only a short while, I realized that she was only a naive, young girl. When her whirlwind affair began only three day
... mores after beginning at the White House, President Kennedy was in full control. In her book, Mimi describes how the affair begins, and how it progresses. She did not try to portray their situation as anything that it was not--Kennedy is a philanderer, and she is just another one of the girls. With that being said, she explains how Kennedy is able to compartmentalize his life in order to accommodate all aspects--official office duties, family, extracurricular, etc. He does this by relying heavily on his personal assistant, Dave Powers. Dave might have had lots of duties in the White House, but in Mimi's book, he appears more like a pimp for the president. For Mimi, it begins with an invitation to a swim in the middle of the work day, and the president coming to the pool. At the end of that day, it is an invitation to the west wing, cocktails with the president, and then a personal tour of the president's living quarters. Unfortunately, she doesn't get very much of a tour, it ends in Jackie's bedroom, with their first encounter on Jackie's bed.In the entire book, there is very little about Jackie. President Kennedy, as mentioned, kept his personal and family life separate from other areas of his life. Jackie travels a lot with the kids, and this is when Kennedy is with Mimi. When they are together, he only mentions in passing where Jackie is vacationing. Never does he give any further details, so there are always those questions about Jackie. Obviously, for that, I must read the book written with her side of the story. less

Unbelievably boring memoir about an inherently interesting and salacious topic, an affair with JFK.

Mimi Alford has written an insightful book about her personal journey to freedom.
