review 1: I really enjoyed the author's descriptions of life on the Alaskan coast. She paints a picture of her daily routine, as well as her physical and emotional journey of making a wild place her home. She details the relationship that brought her up there, the various places they lived together, the friends she made and the outdoorsy experiences she had- hiking, skiing, kayaking, fishing, etc.I felt the only thing lacking was a real compelling conclusion. She takes on the journey, but leaves us hanging a little.
review 2: I purchased Tide, Feather, Snow in a bookstore in Juneau, Alaska to accompany me on a vacation to Florida, my first visit away from Alaska since moving there 7 months earlier. The entire plane ride to Florida I read, transfixed. Tide, Feather, Snow
... moreis extremely well-wrought book -- no word is wasted. And Weiss nails the experience of moving to this strange land. She put words to so many feelings that I, who followed my boyfriend to Alaska, have also felt. Read this book if you want to know what moving to and living in Alaska is like. Read it if you appreciate good, well-crafted language. And read it if you like slow, quietly reached epiphanies. This book isn't a page-turner in the usual sense of that term. But, if you're like me, you will read it as slowly as possible, absorbing and savoring every word. It's stunning. less

I never finished this. I was floored that this woman could make her adventure so shockingly boring.
