review 1: If I had known that this was a Christian romance, I might have had second thoughts about reading it. This does become apparent in the first chapter of the book, but I decided to give it a try anyway. I am glad that I did. What worked for me were the characters and their developing relationships with each other. I felt that the author did well in detailing the changes that the hero, Mike, had to undergo in order to make himself a good guardian for his orphaned teenage niece. He was a bit slower in becoming the type of partner the heroine was looking for, but that was more believable. The heroine, Josie, I felt, didn't seem to have made as many changes - or at least it was not as apparent. However, she is a likable character with faults and the will to stand by her dreams in... morestead of "giving them up for love". The niece, Lisa, seemed to act like a normal, troubled teenager. She did seem integral to the story, and her interactions with both the heroine and her uncle were sweet and funny to read. What did not work for me was the Christian part of the story. I confess to feeling uncomfortable reading all the internal prayers that the hero and heroine had, particularly the ones from the hero. I really could not see him as being Christian or religious, so his internal prayers to God seemed out of place and out of character. I also did not think that the author wrote the "family reunion" scene very well. Mike apparently had a misconception about the Josie's background, which I thought was surprising considering the fact that there had been clues in a couple of conversations between them which should have alerted him to the fact that her background was not what he assumed it to be.Otherwise, I really enjoyed this book. I borrowed it as an e-book from the library, but I think I will also add it to my personal library in a more permanent fashion.
review 2: have also been in the shoes of THIS main character! never felt like i fit in w/ the family i was born into. i never had the nerve to break free like she did, tho, not for MANY many years, and then, never as totally as she did.i love the fact that the other main character in this book made the compromises that he did. sure wish that more fathers would at least THINK about it, if not actually do it. it really is NOT about the money, but about the time, and ourselves, that we give our kids that they appreciate and need the most!!!a great uplifting quick easy read less
