review 1: It's rarely that I read a book that captivates me from page one until the end, but more importantly a book that changes my perspective and view on the world. I was seriously challenged by this book and my understanding of missions, the world, and the way in which God works. It was through this book that I saw that this belief I hold so dearly is more than just an ancient book, it is more than my little world. God is at work in amazing ways, ways that are only explainable by the power and love of God. I highly recommend this book if you desire to be challenged in your faith, if you doubt that God is at work today, or even if you doubt he exists at all.

... morealis in the early 90's at the beginning of the chaos there. After 15 years of living there they returned to rural Kentucky depleted, worn out and with a threadbare faith. Sometime later Nik travelled to interview Christians in countries of persecution. The stories he retells are amazing and humbling. The following is a quote from the book summarizing his observations well. "This is one of the most important lessons that we learned from believers in persecution: They (and you and I) are just as free to share Jesus today in Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist, Communist countries as you and I are in America. It isn't a matter of political freedom. It is a simple matter of obedience. The price for obedience might be different in different places - but it is always possible to obey Christ's call to make disciples. Every believer in every place is always free to make that choice."One more quote from the book when he was asked if he thought persecution is coming to America. "Why would Satan want to wake us up when he already shut us up? Why would Satan bother with us when we are already accomplishing his goal? He will likely conclude that it is better to let us sleep. less
