review 1: An entertaining read. I had trouble getting into certain elements of the story but others I felt were well-done. Maybe a tad heavy on dialogue; toward the end I found myself skimming. One of the male leads was such a jerk midway through that I couldn't like him for the rest of the book -- and he wasn't the villain of the story either. Tadie, the female protagonist, is likable and flawed. She has her share of blind spots but they smack of naïvety, not outright stupidity. The sailing background of the author is apparent, which is fun. I appreciated that anything "intimate" happened offscreen. Somebody does attempt a serious crime but otherwise it is a light breezy read.
review 2: I have no history with sailing, but that didn't deter me from thoroughly enjoying t... morehis book. I can only imagine that someone who DOES know their way around a boat would find it that much more entertaining. I loved the small town setting, the diversity of friendships, the warmth and honesty of the relationships, and the fact that the bad guy gets what's coming to him. These are real people whom you might encounter anywhere, with realistic issues and frustrations in their daily lives that don't get whisked aside simply because this is a love story. I'll be looking for more of this author's work. less
