review 1: This is a big mesh of articles from Oprah's magazine, "O." Some of the articles I found to be incredible, but others I was less interested in or weren't as captivating. Plenty of inspiring and helpful articles to help improve all aspects of your life.My favorite two articles were:"Martha Beck's Anti-Complain Campaign" - Instead of letting your "steam" build up inside of you (only to explode), or result in excessive complaining, you take that steam and direct it to produce something positive (like fueling pistons! But metaphorically).and"Love Traps 101" - This article is very enlightening to learn about yourself and other people - and how you function in relationships. Many of us have a "schema," or psychological patterns that are laid down early in our childhoods that cont... moreinue to shape our adult thoughts, actions, relationships, careers, and life choices. The word "schema" comes from an ancient Greek word meaning "form." These schemas can end up as life traps. They include:Emotional DeprivationEntitlementAbandonmentDefectivenessSubjugationUnrelenting StandardsMistrust/AbuseSelf-SacrificeTesting myself and my boyfriend was a very helpful insight into understanding and fixing our problems.
review 2: I checked this out from the library to see if I would ever think to give it as a gift to my sister who has recently developed an affection for the monthly O Magazine. I had a subscription when the magazine first launched and loved it back then... until the articles started to repeat themselves. I saw many of my old favorites in this anthology and it is a lovely coffee table book. However, I don't think it was necessarily the best selection of some of their articles from past issues. There were some I would have edited out and others I wished had been included. But it's very pretty and the pages are thick and glossy. less
