review 1: Something of a disappointment after a strong start to this series. Well written and zooms right along, but the plot lost all credibility and the time-travel elements could have been handled in a much more compelling manner. The first book, The Breach was fantastic. Ghost Country was exciting but started to veer into a plot that felt manufactured, with a forced "happy ending". And Deep Sky failed to live up to the promise of the first book and left the characters scrambling after the plot of the second book. I still like Runner best of the Patrick Lee books I've read this year.
review 2: This was a satisfying conclusion to the Travis Chase Trilogy started in the Breach. Oddly enough, I didn't find it quite as strong as the second book, but it held it's own... more. There was one technology from the Breach that seemed too much of a crutch, although it's clear the author tried to steer clear of that...and I wasn't happy with the explanation of the entities. Idid like the explanation about the Breach, however and am intrigued to wonder if there might be another book in this universe... All in all, a great 3 book piece of action fiction with a modern yet science fiction flavor. less
