review 1: This story was told from the POV of Tam, who happens to have a serious ice cream addiction (how adorable). I really liked his voice, and although I didn't get a really good sense of who he was I got a great sense of who the object of his affection, David, was. David is so rough around the edges; the confident, shy and quiet type. Until he dropped the F word - that was just appalling.Their banter left me feeling a bit on the outside, like I was witnessing an intimate conversation with some of the information missing or a private joke I wasn't in on. I felt a little left out, like I didn't quite understand it. It also made me feel like their chemistry was off. This has nothing to do with the writing and I will probably be the only one who feels this way. I'm also a little di... moresappointed that their first time together was glossed over. There was such a build up to them finally coming together that I wanted to witness that. This is a low to no angst story but I feel that angst here would have been a very good thing. It would have solidified the longing that Tam went through crushing on a guy he thought he couldn't have. Any angst would have made their chemistry stronger/ hot. For anyone who doesn't like angst in their stories, this will be a great read for them. The story arc for this was sweet and adorable all wrapped up into one. It was unique and well written. I especially enjoyed David tattooing Tam (even if it wasn't realistic) - we got to see all of the walls come crumbling down from both men and it was a lovely moment.
review 2: Probably close on 3.5 starsContemporary story. Tam, who narrates the story, is obsessed with tattoos - probably as a hang up from his mother's fear of them. He's been following David around at the gym for a while (in a way that starts off feeling very stalkerish) but eventually the two talk and Tam invites him for ice cream - the reason that Tam goes to the gym in the first place. Unlike Tam, David isn't openly gay, though admits to a relationship with a childhood friend. The pair strike a deal that David will train Tam at the gym, and in return, eventually David will do his first tattoo on Tam. The relationship between the two men grows slowly, and you can feel the trust between them growing. I enjoyed this story almost to the end, which I felt went a little flat once the pair had got together and then rushed off the end and Tam finally getting his tattoo. Nonetheless a nice story. less
