review 1: This was such a good book. When you think of kings and queens, you think rich. Instead, when Peggy became king, she was a secretary at the embassy of Ghana in Washington. She had become a U.S. citizen. It turns out Ghana has lots of kings with all these councils and rituals on how to do it properly. Each king had a "queen" and a "soul" plus a council of elders. Her village was poor. Children walked miles each day for water. All the politics and customs made this an intriguing read. There were lots of surprises in store for Peggy, her council who things would go on the way they had before, and her people.
review 2: This is a fantastically entertaining book. King Peggy accepts a responsibility she never imagined having, and, guided by her desire to help the peopl
... moree of her village, was able to work miracles. Although the customs of King Peggy's village are unfamiliar, the struggles she faces as she tries to overcome resistance to her reign and reforms are ones that will ring true to anyone who has ever tried to change things for the better. less
