review 1: Unfortunatly, this one did nothing for me...I really enjoyed the Steampunk flair, I liked the "villain as partner/ Master" approach and the story got pleasently dark in the middle part. But I coudn't really feel for the characters, never really catched their emotions or motives. I'm always in for a decent villain - but I like my bad boys to be bad and *enjoying* to be bad - not whimpering about that they "don't know how to love"... *sighs*The prose is lush and probably fitting for a mock-victorian setup - it just isn't my cup of tea exactly.
review 2: This was a bit darker than I was expecting it to be but it was a whirlwind of an adventure nonetheless. Right from the start, I was sucked into a vivid and magical world and I was with Cedo every step of the way
... moreon his incredible journey through it. Erus was an enigma of a man; often brutal but then in the next breath equally kind. Just when I thought I had him figured out, he would do something that would make me pause and think again. Emotionally, this was not an easy read and the cliffhanger ending just reinforced the point that the adventure is only beginning! less

I couldn't get past the abusive behaviour of one character enough to finish this book.

By the mid point it was too BDSM for my taste. Interesting dark world.
