It’s the second Tuesday of the month, which will hopefully be TBR Tuesday for the remainder of the year. Each month, I will detail a new book that is high up on my TBR pile as well as one that has been on it a while and I hope to read soon!

I’m a huge science nerd, and absolutely love anything dealing with genetics. I was super excited when I found out about this YA thriller focusing on a near future where genetic engineering is prevalent throughout society, and genes can be hacked and hold secrets. Here’s a shortened version of the book synopsis:
Catarina Agatta is a hacker. She can cripple mainframes and crash through firewalls, but that’s not what makes her special. In Cat’s world, people are implanted with technology to recode their DNA, allowing them to change their bodies in any way they want. And Cat happens to be a gene-hacking genius.
That’s no surprise, since Cat’s father is Dr. Lachlan Agatta, a legendary geneticist who may be the last hope for defeating a plague that has brought humanity to the brink of extinction. But during the outbreak, Lachlan was kidnapped by a shadowy organization called Cartaxus, leaving Cat to survive the last two years on her own.

I read Red Rising in one sitting last month, and am determined to read the rest of the series soon since the fourth one (and the start of a spin-off trilogy) comes out January 16. I absolutely loved all the characters introduce in Red Rising, and the sort of adult Hunger Games feel to it. I can’t wait to finally pick up the sequel!
As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, enduring backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants. But the Society he faithfully served was built on lies. Darrow’s kind have been betrayed and denied by their elitist masters, the Golds—and their only path to liberation is revolution. And so Darrow sacrifices himself in the name of the greater good for which Eo, his true love and inspiration, laid down her own life. He becomes a Gold, infiltrating their privileged realm so that he can destroy it from within.
