HBO brings back its life-after-breakup comedy line-up tonight, as Pete Holmes, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Thomas Haden Church return tonight to angst it up. Meanwhile, our recommendations include history’s greatest monster-running half-hour show and a fictional president beginning to lose his mind (thank goodness that could never happen in … bleep it).
JASON’S PICK:
Crashing [HBO, 10:30p]
Anxiety-prone comic Pete Holmes continues the chronicles of his rise to semi-prominence as Crashing‘s second season starts tonight. In the opener, Penn Jilette takes on the role of wandering-in guest star, as the noted atheist chisels away at Holmes’ waning faith.
KATHERINE’S PICK:
Madam Secretary [CBS, 10p]
On tonight’s episode Elizabeth keeps the world from another violent, political implosion through smarts, wits, and empathy.
BRAD’S PICK:
The Simpsons [Fox, 8p]
A paranoid Mr. Burns fears the end of the world is coming, so he enlists The help of Professor Frink to determine who is worth saving in Springfield.
- Attention Rick & Morty fans: co-creator Justin Roiland adds to his Adult Swim portfolio with Hot Streets, a 15-minute animated series about governmental ghost detecting.
- Robert and Francis settle into their new lives as season 2 of HBO’s Divorce opens with an episode called “Night Moves” which has the damn Bob Seger song in our heads now … just great! And he’s no longer as litigious, so that link is actually his song.
- Celebrate Valentine’s Day in January with the Belcher ladies as they rent a limo on a new Bob’s Burgers.
