review 1: Pleasant enough. What stuck with me the most, though, amongst the mildly entertaining Masterpiece anecdotes? This woman had five miscarriages. How the hell did she survive five miscarriages? I can barely deal with one. Eaton drops little tidbits about her personal life, like the miscarriages, and the end of her marriage, but then leaves them hanging. If she was going to bring them up, I wanted to know a little more.
review 2: Well, OK, I had it read *to* me. I get an audio book at the library when I have a road trip, and this is what I listened to on my recent trip to Dallas/Keller.Overall, I enjoyed it. Rebecca Eaton (author) has been executive producer of Masterpiece for well over 20 years. It's a combination of the history of Masterpiece, how it's mad
... moree, and a personal memoir of her own. I liked the "making Masterpiece" bits a lot more than her personal memoir; I didn't think that part added anything to the story. And it's recent; the book ends with the megahit that Downton Abbey has become. I found interesting the parts where Masterpiece, all of a sudden, went from having nearly no competition to having lots, when cable TV exploded. They had to redefine themselves to survive. Plus they had to figure out how to reach out to a new, younger audience. Recommended for anyone who enjoys Masterpiece and wants to learn more about how it's made and how they source their programs. less

The scoop on Masterpiece was great but I was not interested in the author's personal life or family.

Let's be clear, I am incredibly biased and predisposed to love this book. But it's great; read it.
