review 1: A pity that Rex doesn't write as well as he plays bass. Most of what we came for isn't here. The sordid history of Pantera is just kind of glossed over. There's nothing terribly interesting or shocking.About all you walk away with is "Vinnie Paul is an asshole and likes strip clubs. Rex Brown likes golf. Dimebag liked to drink. Phil can't ski. We made oodles of money."Perhaps the most disturbing thing in the book is written about Jerry Cantrell, who is supposed to be Rex's friend. Rex writes stuff like, "I don't want to go into Jerry's problems (heroin) but I'd go by his place and his dog would be chained up and his food bowl would be empty for three days." Classy.
review 2: Really good book. A lot of insight into the rise and fall of the band, but, Rex seems
... moreto be a bit full of himself. He has a "Holier Than Thou" take on some of the things that transpired...I'd like to hear what the other guys had to say in response. Even so, a good book with tons of "behind the scenes" info on what went down through the years. Would be a 5, but, his arrogance got old after awhile. less
