review 1: I LOVED the first part of this book, the spiritual and mental connection to why we should change the way we view our bodies and the fact that Pastor Rick Warren and his congregation started out not necessarily to lose weight, but to just live healthier (the weight loss was a side effect). What I didn't like is he then goes on to pull in some experts in the field and pretty much pinholes how we should eat or approach this in our own lives (the physical approach). Although some of the ideas are sound, some are a bit daunting and difficult to incorporate. I tried several of the included recipes and even ordered the companion cookbook, only to be disappointed by the lack of usable solutions. The meals were something I may try and eat, but were not conducive to cooking for a fa... moremily, either time-wise or budget-wise. So once again, I was faced with fixing two different meal plans -- which is not sustainable. I will definitely read the first part of the book again and use it as a reference, but I believe we all have to find the right path for ourselves that works within our circumstances, with wisdom and prudence. If I'm using all my energy and time to follow something that is so far out of what is "doable" for me, it puts me back in the position of not being able to live my life as a disciple of Christ -- I'm obsessing in the other direction. There has to be a balance.
review 2: Different than most health books because it includes Faith as an important component. I.e. one major advice is "Dedicate your body to God." And your body is "built with love as the motivation." There is definitely a Christian aspect to this component so be forewarned if that bothers you. But, if you are Christian, you may like this aspect.Still, I suspect that you could simply mentally substitute some other theology. If you are an atheist, you could probably think of "love" instead of God.However, the Faith component is not overwhelming. This book looks at life from a diverse view, including Faith, Friends, Food, Fitness and Focus and how each is a part of a holistic view of your body's health. The discussion of food also discusses such aspects as that what you eat affects the environment around you (e.g. if everybody ate less factory farm beef there would be less cause to make such beef and less harm done to the environment, antibiotic resistance, hormonal imbalances and so on.) less

Some really good information in here about lasting lifestyle changes rather than temporary diets.
