review 1: This was probably one of the most disturbing of the volumes in the series to date. Things have started to look up a bit for our trusty group of heroes, but things take a bit of a twist when one of the children kills another one, thinking that it is just play. This leaves everyone confused as to what to do with the surviving child. Some thing it is like a dog and once he has tasted blood, he will be more likely to kill again. At the same time, no one really wants to be the person to kill a child. Things are resolved when Carl takes matters into his own hands. The rest of the volume seems to focus largely on how events have caused all of them to be changed greatly from the people they used to be before the dead started walking. Some are glad for the people they have beco... moreme while others miss the innocent bliss in which they used to live.Things also continue to get worse as it is becoming clear that their daily hunting and gathering is not bringing enough food to maintain a supply that will keep them going. Desperation is about to settle in when they realize they are being followed by a young man.I do have to admit to struggling quite a bit with this volume ... and a part of my suspects that all the horror everyone has been experiencing at last week's episode of the show might be tied to the fact that the same thing has happened on the show. I am usually pretty ok with horror and dark situations, but struggle greatly when they involve kids. The book was just as well done as the others, though, even with the dark undertones.
review 2: SPOILERS!!!!!!!!! In this installment, the group is faced with a tough decision when Ben kills his twin brother Billy. Do they lock Ben up and just kept him locked up forever, or do they kill him? One thing I love about reading and watching the Walking Dead is imagining myself in these people's spots, trying to make a decision on what to do. After the conflict with Ben is resolved, the group faces a new problem. The Hunters, a group of cannibals who kidnap a certain member of the group. And once again, Rick finds himself struggling to hold on to his humanity as he deals with the Hunters. Overall, this was a great volume in the series, with a bunch of action, drama, and sadness. Can't wait to read volume 12! less
