review 1: Ruby Bridges, a six-year-old African-American girl was able to change history by walking through an angry crowd of white people into a school where she was not wanted. She became the first African-American to attend an all white school in New Orleans. The simple text and detailed photographs make it a good independent read for younger students. This book reveals the struggles black people had with segregation during the civil rights movement.
review 2: DRA:? Reading Level: grades k-3Ruby Bridges explores how life was for black adults and children at the times of segregation. She talks about her experience going to a all white school for the first time after the court ruled that she was allowed to do so. Ruby explores the positive and negative repercussion
... mores of her attending a all white school. She talks about the great relationship she developed with her teacher and classmates at the end. less

Wonderful book written by Ruby Bridges herself. The photos really drive home the message of racism.
