review 1: At times I felt a sort of deja vu. This book had a similar feel to the book I read just weeks ago, "Tales From the Crib". Of the two, I think I liked this better. I did find the narrator to be quite whiny though. Yes, parenting is stressful and difficult but she was just always talking about those negatives and not as much on the positives. I also found the flow of the book to be kind of off in places.
review 2: As far as mommylit goes, this one isn't bad. It's quite funny, for one thing, and I think most new stay-at-home moms would enjoy it quite a bit. However, at times it felt forced. How many times do we have to hear about how much she looooves her baby and dotes on him, and how are we supposed to reconcile this incessant complete and total 100% adoration o... moref her baybeee with her frequent, spot-on commentary on how hard parenting an infant actually is? It didn't feel realistic to me.Also, while I was quite involved in the plot, I knew we were in for a happy ending, and that sort of bummed me out. I also didn't believe in said ending; frankly, the narrator seemed to deeply dislike her husband, and I was never convinced that those feelings changed. In the end, I feel like the author has talent. However, I suspect that the book actually wanted to go someplace darker and more interesting, but that the author and/or her editor suspected that was too much of a downer and fluffed this sucker up like a down pillow. less
