review 1: I won this book in a Goodreads contest, and I am glad I did. Davis does a great job crossing from recalling a memory to teaching the readers a lesson. I found his personal story heart-warming, and his stories of what he had seen in his ER career gave me a look into the lives of those who would've been better if they had only been taught how to react in a health situation. Overall I recommend this book to anyone looking for an interesting read about the nitty-gritty details of the ER and the effects it has on the people that run it.
review 2: Very good and insightful book!!!! It gave me a good look at ways that I may be able to help my community or make me want to reach out and help my community. It also made me realize that I need to address some more of my own
... more health concerns or pay more attention to them. It has opened my eyes to what is happening in our African American culture a lot more too. I wish there were more Doctors like Dr Sampson around. I would like to read some of his other books as well, like the Pact. I heard about that book when it first was published and was very honored to have won this one!!! I intend on sharing this one with my family members. Very excellent book!!!!! less

I enjoyed this book, being from NJ and knowing how the Newark area is I could totally relate.

A bit preachy at times, but an engaging and realistic look at inner-city health problems.
