Passion in Paradise: The Men of the McKinnon Sisters
review 1: This is an emotionally powerful story. It has dark moments and a strong message if love, faith, and forgiveness. There are many mature themes touched upon this book. Cain is a doctor working for the small hospital near his home in Paradise, Tennessee. He has a twin brother, Abel and his best friend Zeke is the sheriff. The McKinnon sisters, Honor, Harmony, Patience, and Faith have been on their own since their parents were killed by a drunk driver years ago. Honor has been through her own horrific past and even though she is the youngest sister she is very much in charge. Cain gets orders to deploy to Afghanistan and serve a 15 month deployment there as a doctor. He proposes to his true love Faith prior to leaving. He promises he will be back and he loves her. About halfwa... morey through the deployment, Cain is now a broken man. He is seeing the effects of this war everyday and is unable to think clearly. He ends up sending Faith a letter ending their engagement without any explanation. Faith is back home beside herself trying to figure out what she did wrong. Cain finally makes it home but hides on his father's farm so no one can find him. Abel determines that his twin needs help and that Faith needs Cain. He works with Honor on a plan to get them back together. So enough the whole family is involved and locks the two of them in the bar refrigerator one night. Cain and Faith learn what the other has been thinking and feeling and determine their own future. This story explored the depths of war and what it can do to the person in the war and also the person waiting back home. This was not a gentle story but one that spoke to the reader of honesty and love. I commend the author for writing this poignant and necessary story. The characters are honest and well guided throughout the story. The plot travels both continents with ease. The dialogue is believable and moving. This was definitely one of the best books I have read in a while.
review 2: Cain's Salvation by Sarah O'RourkeCain & FaithCOMPLETE AND UTTER TORMENT!This book has been on my radar for so long, but do to other commitments I had to put it down several times... I finally got through it and I loved it! From the depths of hell this story was spawned. I love a good soul retching read and this one delivered in spades! It's packed with so much angst, hilarity, love, loathing, and some pretty steamy sex scenes to boot. Well, I guess the one I'm thinking of could be classified and cold as hell... but you'll just have to read it and find out!!! LOL!Cain is my hero in every way! I loved all that he was and all that he became! I fell in and out and back in love with him more times than I can count. His character felt very relatable and significant. My heart literally broke for him in his darkest hour! I can't even imagine what he (or any soldier) goes through just to survive out there. That in itself is maddening. I was, I am, and will forever be a huge supporter of our armed forces! Now Faith, how fuckin' awesome is she? Just about the cutest, funniest, and sexiest leading lady I've read in quite some time! My life will never be the same as I lived her anguish with her and came out on the other side a new woman! I shed plenty of tears over this one. My heart was aching, my head was reeling, and my soul has been sold to the highest bidder! I. Love. Faith!Great supporting character cast and really awesome names by the way! Those sisters of hers are enough to make you bust a gut laughing your ass off! I mean... Patience, Harmony, and Honor.. oh yeah... and one of them has a daughter named Heaven... and get this shit... Cain's twin brother's name is Abel... My Jaw was dropping... man if my Mom hadn't sent me to Lutheran school, I would never have seen the references here! Very cool! To wrap this up before I get to chatty... this was 153 (Kindle version) pages long and I'm fairly certain if I was left alone with no interruptions I would have finished this in one afternoon. The pacing is ideal, the tale was effortless to read, and the anxiety build up to the climax was superb! Can't wait to find out who the next book is about! 5 Stars! less
