review 1: If you want a "feel good" easy, cosy read, this is a book to choose. I was attracted immediately by the setting of a luxury hotel preparing for Christmas. Each chapter focuses on a guest or group of guests and relates their story and how they came to the hotel, so very reminiscent of Maeve Binchy's style of writing. It kept me interested to the end, with inevitably some chapters/guests having more appeal than others. I was particularly struck by the story of Jim and Laura, stressed out with their mothers competing over who was to host the first Christmas of their new baby granddaughter. Ghost stories usually leave me cold, but the story of Louisa was very touching. Very enjoyable.
review 2: Should not have read this book in the summer. It's a book bas
... moreed during Christmas and the holiday seasons. The setting is based in a lodge and each chapter talks about the circumstances that have brought each family or person to the lodge. The thing that was interesting was the fact that you do realize everyone has a story. I would recommend the book when you are in the holiday season mood. I think I would have enjoyed it more that way. less
