The Hangman's Replacement
review 1: I have no doubt that this author has a talent for writing. The style is easy to read, and the characters are very believable. That being said, this book was not exactly what I expected, and the shifting perspectives seemed to detract from the story. Similar to the 2008 movie titled "Vantage Point", this story tells the reader new information from a new perspective every couple of chapters - all regarding this one situation (finding a new hangman to protect secrets by throwing bodies at an unexpected problem). To be fair, this book started in my preferred genre, but quickly left it. I could not bring myself to finish reading it, and had to force myself to go as far as I did. Overall score for me, 2 out of 5. Family Friendliness: 1 out of 5This is definitely not a book for c... morehildren, or Christians as myself. There are some strange spiritual ideologies discussed. Also there are references of both a violent and sexual nature. Fortunately, this book is not one to attract the attention of young readers.
review 2: First section of the book was promising. The humor reminded me of "God's Must Be Crazy". The main character having come from a small town and traveling for a job interview in the big city for the first time, this made for quite a few funny moments. Then it lost me. I hated the jump from character to character, while I usually can understand when this is done and why... this time it didn't work because we hardly get to see the character again and I almost felt like, "What was the point?" I think the reason i was so irritated with this book was because it was unbelievably long. I got close to 350 pages in and quit, threw in the proverbial hat. This just wasn't for me. less

Thought provoking read. Shows complexity of choices made by a man to preserve loved ones.

Really liked the first chapter, but felt like it went downhill from there quickly.
