review 1: Taylor Mali is an incredible poet and his book What Teachers Make is a great collection of short chapters detailing different experiences he had as a teacher. I have always used Taylor Mali's poetry in my classroom and so I enjoyed peeking into Mali's classroom, especially because he taught middle school like myself. Having a voice speak up over the criticisms and ignorant treatment of educators in this country is appreciated. Mali's book helps to honor the energy and heart we give as teachers and was a gentle reminder of why I walk this path. A great read before the start of the school year.
review 2: A wonderfully inspiring mix of anecdotes and Mali's poetry that make teachers remember why they're teachers, inspire others to become them, and encourage everyon
... moree else to get a clue about teaching. He incorporates his wit and passion for teaching in to the poems that were inspired by the true events including the famous "What Teachers Make". LOVE that I have an inscribed edition and will display it prominently on my desk at work! ...need to always reread the series of letters about using the library space. less
