review 1: I would give a finger or three to write as imaginatively and grippingly as Naifeh foes in the Crumrin books. In this next volume, we get a variety of threaded stories, dealing with Courtney, a new girl moving in next door, her uncle, and the past of the series (and, yes, you should read the others before you get here, both because they are excellent, and because significant plot bits come back into play).Naifeh does an excellent job of moral ambiguity, in different places running the story over again between the perspectives of Courtney and her new neighbor, Holly Hart, demonstrating how things went so very, very wrong, and muddying the question of who's the obvious hero or villain. Throw in a magical world to make Neil Gaiman smile, and it's all just bloody triffic stuff.... more Highly recommended.
review 2: I love these books. The only disappointing part is that they are not very long. The artwork is fun. It's not overly colorful but that adds to the world that Courtney lives in.Being the 5th in the series, I won't share many thoughts except that it's not boring and I still long for the next book in the series as I do with every book I read in this series.I adore Courtney Crumrin - she's funny, strong and very strange. I love how she just accepts the world around her. less
