review 1: Very enjoyable book. Going to Japan to teach English and get to know the culture has been one of those things that I have kicked around a little as a cool thing to do. This book confirmed that it gives you a chance to sustainably live in Japan, but the job will grind you down over time. The funny thing is how a job teaching English ends up slowly destroying his English. Fun writing, great commentary and observations. A very enjoyable book with some real nuggets of knowledge. It seems like this adventure gave him a little clearer sense of purpose, which is always a good thing.
review 2: I got this book as part of a promotion for $1. It isn't what I would usually pick up.The book is funny (I laughed out loud a couple of times) and "out there" because Tim's poi
... morent of view is definitely skewed. He is a gay white man teaching English in Tokyo, and has an absurd sense of humor. So, if you like the absurd, you might like this series of short stories about some of Tim's experiences.I liked most of it, but not all. less
