review 1: I've been thinking about how to review this book for two days now. I enjoyed this book and believe any child would as well. So, what's the hang up? I feel like I have heard this story a million times. It's filled with child fantasy cliches, it lacks any real creativity and depth. I feel the author took every child fantasy idea and threw it into this story. You have princes, princesses, dragons, faeries, trolls, and a mix of other magical creatures thrown into one short story. The characters are hard to believe and not very likable. The magical system also didn't make much sense. The story is just way underdeveloped for 180 plus pages. I feel I'm being a little harsh, but there are better books about princes rescuing princesses from evil dragons. The story behind... more this book is cute but the downfall for me was that it reads like someone making up a story at bedtime to a child. Now with all that said, it's a cute story and that's why I gave it 3 stars. I just wish the author did a little more work on fine tuning and developing. I won the book from Goodreads, thank you!
review 2: When you enter this world that contains such places as the Valley of Beauty, the Forest of Enchantment, and Blood Mountain, you won't be able to help becoming immersed in this story of gallant families, heroic kings (although not heroic at first), evil dragons, and a princess-in-distress. While the plot isn't complicated (it is a fairy tale, after all), its doesn't lack in detail, either. The characters are well written, the action is nicely balanced throughout the whole story, & the fairy tale aspect never overwhelms the story; nicely avoiding the risk of making the book too "cute".If you haven't had the pleasure of reading this book yet....you should!Personally, I can't wait for Book #2. less
