review 1: Fun book about a relatively vagabond musician's travels and lessons through life. Enjoyable on a sliding scale, as you don't expect too much from it in the first place. His stories are interesting, entertaining, and often quite funny. But they are more often than not concluded with loose ends dangling. That's life, of course. But the best true stories have endings. Todd Snider's voice is sometimes a little too happy to hear himself talk - and you can tell these are mostly stories he does as spoken entertainment at his shows - so that's kind of okay too. Again, graded on a sliding scale. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to people who might have an interest in tales of drugs and escapades with famous people. There's a great Jerry Jeff Walker story about the two of them ... morelistening to a homeless man play Walker's "Mr. Tamborine Man" for them on a corner.
review 2: If you're a fan of Todd Snider's, you know that he's as much a storyteller as he is a singer/songwriter and this collection of stoner fables is as indispensable as a new album. It's all here: Moondawg, Bill Eliot, Tony Bennett and more. And lots of drugs. Tons. High five!If you are not a fan of Todd Snider's, you should still read the book. You might not get it. You might not like it. But the guy wrote it, you might as well read it, right? Right.Somewhere in the mess of Hunter S. Thompson-style madness there's a message about being true to yourself and following your dreams for the love of it all. Unfortunately I missed that part and mainly took away the lesson: You'll never lose your shoes if you walk around barefoot. Or some deep shit like that. High five! less

Very entertaining. He writes stories just like he tells them on stage, which I've always enjoyed.
