Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: As New. 1st Edition. Annie Clark Tanner (1864-1942) was born on September 24, 1864, in Farmington, Utah to Ezra T. and Susan Leggett Clark. She was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1873. At the age of 16, in 1880, she studied at the University of Utah, and attended the Bringham Young Academy high school between 1882 and 1883. There, she met Professor Joseph Marion Tanner. In 1883, she became the second plural wife of Tanner. Due to anti-polygamy laws, they kept their marriage secret. Annie and J.M. Tanner had ten children together, eight of whom survived to adulthood. In 1913, Tanner dissolved the relationship, leaving Annie effectively a single parent of eight children; to support her family, she worked as nurse in Salt Lake City. In 1934, she wrote two books, both biographies of her parents: A Biography of Ezra T. Clark and Sketch of the Life of Susan Leggett Clark: A Utah Pioneer of 1861. In 1941, she completed her autobiography A Mormon Mother. Annie Clark Tanner died in 1942 in Farmington, Utah. This is a rare first edition of the first book Annie Clark Tanner ever wrote and published. Preface is written by her youngest child Obert C. Tanner. The marbled Avocado colored boards with gold embossed type are absolutely fantastic and in A+ gift condition. All 94 interior pages of text {and accompanying pages} are as crisp, clean, and fresh as they were when printed 84 years ago. 4 3/4" Wide x 6 3/4" Tall x 1/2" Thick This is a fantastic LDS collectible. Photos available upon request.
