AN ELITE BRITISH ARMY UNIT IS ON A DEADLY MISSION. Autumn, 1942: Hitler's legions have swept across Europe. Soviet Russia reels under the German onslaught while across the channel, Britain struggles on. And in North Africa, Field Marshall Erwin Rommel and his Afrika Korps have routed the 8th Army, threatening the oil fields of the Middle East. The war hangs in the balance. Out of this, the British hatch a desperate plan - to send a small, highly mobile fighting force behind enemy lines to strike a blow that will stop Rommel's army in its tracks. It is to be called the Long Range Desert Group and its exploits will become the stuff of legend. Based on real events, Steven Pressfield's bold novel brings to pulse-racing life the ingenuity and daring of this maverick commando unit - a disparate, dedicated 'band of brothers' who sacrificed so much for the sake of freedom. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fair. First edition. Octavo. 21, [1]pp. Original pebbled black cloth over thin paper covers. Binding very worn; front free endpaper and various pages loose; complete, in fair condition. This privately printed effort documents a pleasure yachting cruise of "The Resolute" of the New York Yacht Club, owned by A.S. Hatch, a 120 ton schooner. The "Resolute" was constructed by New York boatbuilder David Carll in 1873, and was described in Century magazine as ".one of the most elegant schooner-yachts of the New York Club." The "Resolute" participated in a number of yacht races. A recreational periodical from 1885 notes that Hatch, of the New York city banking firm Fisk & Hatch, sold this vessel in January of 1885. The "cruise" consisted of a round trip affair from New York City to New London, Connecticut. On board were, presumably, a variety of stockbrokers and bankers: James Francis, James Mitchell, John Richardson, T.M. Seaver, (a member of the New York Product Exchange), E. Honeywell, E.S. Mendels, (a prominent Wall Street stock broker), Jr., S.L. Blood, J.T. Stevens, and a Captain Dand. Unlocated. Not in *OCLC.*.
