"When a person becomes 'high profile' in this country today, it is often hard to separate fract from fiction. In this book, my friend Jerry Falwell allows us to see clearly who he really is, where he is coming from, and where hi is going. His critics will be surprised, his friends will be pleased. But whether critic or friend, one will never question his faith after reading this book." - Vice President George Bush "Jerry Falwell has earned his spurs. He has been over the rough road and enjoys unusual blessings of God on his life and ministry. In [the book] hi draws on his own life for lessons for every Christian. This book will be read with great pleasure and profit." - Richard C. Halverson, D.D., Chaplain of the United States Senate "Like him or not, Jerry Falwell is a remarkable man - not least becuse he writes about himself, his family, and his life 'warts and all.' The story of his childhood is like a novel, profoundly moving and sometimes terrifying; and the story of his rise to media fame is an extraordinary chapter in American life." - Larry King "This remarkable man is, as the saying goes, 'for real' - he is dedicated and tireless in doing the Lord's work. [The book] is an eloquent answer to those who ask: 'What can just one person do?" - Senator Jesse Helms. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover with CD. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. xviii, 171, [3] pages. Illustrations. CD of Larry Munson's Greatest Calls. DJ has slight wear, soiling, and rear flap crease. Foreword by Verne Lungquist, Acknowledgments; Introduction by Tony Barnhart; Chapter 1: Get the Picture: It's Been a Helluva Ride; Memories of Minnesota; My Mom, My Music; The War I Could Not Smell; Coming Home, Moving On; Nashville: Vanderbilt and Sulphur Dell; The Braves: Big Break, Big Heartache; The 60s: At Last a Bulldog!; The 70s: From Appleby to Washington to Wonder Dogs; The 80's; There Goes Herschel!, There Goes Herschel!; The 90s: Close but No Cigar; Champions Again!; My 10 Favorite Calls; The Larry Munson Timeline; and Thanks, You Guys. Lawrence Harry Munson (September 28, 1922 - November 20, 2011) was an American sports announcer and talk-show host based out of the U.S. city of Athens, Georgia. He was best known for handling radio play-by-play of University of Georgia Bulldogs football games from 1966 to 2008. He also handled the play-by-play for UGA basketball and Atlanta Falcons radio broadcasts and hosted sports-related talk shows. Munson served as a United States Army medic during World War II. He spent all $200 of his mustering-out pay to enroll in a Minneapolis radio broadcasting school. His first job was announcing the names of boxers and wrestlers for $15 a week. Munson moved on to AM radio station KFBC in Cheyenne, Wyoming, as a sports reporter in 1946. At KFBC, Munson met and became friends with co-worker Curt Gowdy. At that time, Gowdy was also the football announcer for the Wyoming Cowboys. In From Herschel to a Hobnail Boot Larry Munson holds nothing back and gives the inside story of the love affair between a broadcaster and his loyal followers. Providing a behind-the-scenes look into the life and career of a legend, this autobiography includes an exclusive audio CD of Larry Munson's 10 greatest calls, details on Munson's youth in Minneapolis and his love for the outdoors and musical talents, his broadcasting journey around the country before finally landing in Georgia, and the ups and downs of his four decades as part of the Georgia program. A must-have for fans of the University of Georgia, Larry Munson's story is a remarkable look at an era where the radio voice of college football was king.
