Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Tom Clancy's great hero, Jack Ryan Jr, returns in Threat Vector: an explosive tale of global superpowers doing battle. Jack Ryan has only just moved back into the Oval Office when he is faced with a new international threat. An aborted coup in the People's Republic of China has left President Wei Zhen Lin with no choice but to agree with the expansionist policies of General Su Ke Quiang. They have declared the South China Sea a protectorate and are planning an invasion of Taiwan. The Ryan administration is determined to thwart these Chinese ambitions, but the stakes are dangerously high as hundreds of Chinese anti-ship missiles thwart the US Navy's plans to protect the island. Meanwhile, Chinese cyber warfare experts have launched a devastating attack on American infrastructure. Jack Ryan Jr and his colleagues at the Campus may be just the wild card that his father needs to stack the deck. There's just one problem: someone knows about the off-the-books intelligence agency and may be ready to blow their cover sky high. Threat Vector follows the gripping novels Locked On and Dead or Alive as the fourth title in Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Jr Series. Praise for Tom Clancy: `Truly riveting, a dazzling read' Sunday Express `A brilliantly constructed thriller' Daily Mail Thirty years ago Tom Clancy was a Maryland insurance broker with a passion for naval history. Years before, he had been an English major at Baltimore's Loyola College and had always dreamed of writing a novel. His first effort, The Hunt for Red October, sold briskly as a result of rave reviews, then catapulted on to the New York Times bestseller list after President Reagan pronounced it 'the perfect yarn'. From that day forward, Clancy established himself as an undisputed master at blending exceptional realism and authenticity, intricate plotting, and razor-sharp suspense. He passed away in October 2013. Mark Greaney has a degree in international relations and political science and is pursuing his master's in intelligence studies with a concentration in criminal intelligence. He is the author of The Gray Man, On Target, and Ballistic. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Command Authority sees the return of Tom Clancy's greatest hero, Jack Ryan. Decades ago, when he was a young CIA analyst, President Jack Ryan, Sr. was sent on what was supposed to be a simple support mission to investigate the death of an operative who had been looking into suspicious banking activities at a Swiss bank. Ryan's dogged tenacity uncovered not only financial deceit, but also the existence of a KGB assassin, code-named Zenith. He was never able to find the killer. But in the shadowy world of covert operations, nothing stays hidden forever. In the present, a new strongman has emerged in the ever-chaotic Russian republic - the enigmatic President Valeri Volodin. His rise to power was meteoric, but shrouded in deception and treachery. The foundations of his personal empire are built on a bloody secret from his past, and he will eliminate anyone who comes close to that truth. For he has set in motion a plot to return Russia to its former glory and might, with the rest of the world once again trembling in fear of the mighty Bear. When an old friend of the Ryans is poisoned by a radioactive agent, the trail leads to Russia. And Jack Ryan, Jr. - aided by his compatriots John Clark and the covert warriors of the secretive Campus - must delve into an international conflict thirty years in the making, and finish what his father started. With President Ryan fighting a desperate campaign to thwart Russian aggression, and his son fighting a silent war against a ruthless foe, the chances for global conflict grow ever greater - and the possibility of survival may soon be lost for all . . . Tom Clancy's Command Authority is a brand new full-throttle all-action adventure for 2013. It follows Threat Vector and Locked On as the newest Jack Ryan novel. Paperback. Condition: Very Good. The Teeth of the Tiger is the first Jack Ryan Jr novel by Tom Clancy. Just before Jack Ryan stepped down as US President, he created a secret organisation designed to operate in areas where the CIA and FBI couldn't go - able to use any and all means to neutralise terrorists who threatened America. Now his son, Jack Ryan, Jr, is part of that organisation and he's on the front line when a group of Islamic terrorists backed up by Colombian drug smuggles strike at the heart of American society. With no conventional way to hit back at the shadowy ringleaders, it's left to Jack Ryan Jr to take on the terrorists the only way he knows how . . . Internationally bestselling author Tom Clancy first introduced Jack Ryan Jr in The Teeth of the Tiger, returning to his story in Dead or Alive and Locked On. Threat Vector, the fourth thriller in the gripping series, will be available from Penguin in December 2012. Praise for Tom Clancy: 'Incredibly addictive . . . 400 tightly woven, adrenalin-fuelled pages' Daily Mail 'Truly riveting, a dazzling read' Sunday Express 'Heart-stopping action . . . entertaining and eminently topical' Washington Post 'Classic Clancy . . . well-constructed tension and realistic action' Short List 'Exhilarating. Softcover. Condition: Good. FBI files on writers with dangerous ideas, including Hannah Arendt, Allen Ginsberg, Ernest Hemingway, Susan Sontag, and James Baldwin.Writers are dangerous. They have ideas. The proclivity of writers for ideas drove the FBI to investigate many of them-to watch them, follow them, start files on them. Writers under Surveillance gathers some of these files, giving readers a surveillance-state perspective on writers including Hannah Arendt, Allen Ginsberg, Ernest Hemingway, Susan Sontag, and Hunter S. Thompson.Obtained with Freedom of Information Act requests by MuckRock, a nonprofit dedicated to freeing American history from the locked filing cabinets of government agencies, the files on these authors are surprisingly wide ranging; the investigations were as broad and varied as the authors' own works. James Baldwin, for example, was so openly antagonistic to the state's security apparatus that investigators followed his every move. Ray Bradbury, on the other hand, was likely unaware that the Bureau had any interest in his work. (Bradbury was a target because an informant warned that science fiction was a Soviet plot to weaken American resolve.) Ernest Hemingway, true to form, drunkenly called the FBI Nazis and sissies. The files have been edited for length and clarity, but beyond that everything in the book is pulled directly from investigatory files. Some investigations lasted for years, others just a few days. Some are thrilling narratives. Others never really go anywhere. Some are funny, others quite harrowing. Despite the federal government's periodic admission of past wrongdoing, investigations like these will probably continue to happen. Like all that seems best forgotten, the Bureau's investigation of writers should be remembered. We owe it to ourselves.WritersHannah Arendt, James Baldwin, Ray Bradbury, Truman Capote, Tom Clancy, W. E. B. Du Bois, Allen Ginsberg, Ernest Hemingway, Aldous Huxley, Ken Kesey, Norman Mailer, Ayn Rand, Susan Sontag, Terry Southern, Hunter S. Thompson, Gore Vidal.
