First Edition
Wraps. Condition: Near Fine. First Edition, First Printing. 192pp. 22cm. Softcover. Perfectbound glossy illustrated wraps. The first issue of publisher David Latimer's short lived 2001 tri-annual magazine. Almost ghost-like in it's rarity, we're fairly sure that the magazine only made it through 3 issues (we've never seen a 4th issue, or a 2nd issue for that matter). Contributors include RU Sirius, Robert Anton Wilson, Huey P. Newton, Jack J. Woehr, Priya Karim Haji, and others. Book Condition: near fine; faint shelf wear to covers else fine. From Nov. 28, 2001 SFGATE "Fledgling journal accidentally finds it's ahead of its time" by DAN FOST: R.U. Sirius was always a little ahead of the curve, but this is ridiculous. The Mill Valley writer, who had founded the seminal but short-lived technology magazine Mondo 2000 in 1989, is editor of a new journal, the Thresher. The Thresher's first issue was printed in August, before anthrax was on anybody's radar screen, yet the first article in its pages is an interview with author Richard Preston about the dangers of biological warfare. "I'm a zeitgeist idiot savant," Sirius said. "I stumble into things." .The magazine is the brainchild of David Latimer, a New York publisher whose prior publications include the former San Francisco satirical journal the Nose. Latimer was inspired by the Baffler, a Chicago political journal, and McSweeney's, a literary journal led by author Dave Eggers. Sirius said he also draws inspiration from Coevolution Quarterly, Stewart Brand's former magazine of politics and ideas.
