Paperback. Condition: Very Good. On 10 June 1991, eleven-year-old Jaycee Dugard was abducted from a school bus stop within sight of her home in Tahoe, California. It was the last her family and friends saw of her for over eighteen years. On 26 August 2009, Dugard, her daughters, and Phillip Craig Garrido appeared in the office of her kidnapper's parole officer in California. Their unusual behaviour sparked an investigation that led to the positive identification of Jaycee Lee Dugard, living in a tent behind Garrido's home. During her time in captivity, at the age of fourteen and seventeen, she gave birth to two daughters, both fathered by Garrido. Dugard's memoir, is written by the 30-year-old herself and covers the period from the time of her abduction in 1991 up until the present. In her stark, utterly honest and unflinching narrative, Jaycee opens up about what she experienced, including how she feels now, a year after being found. Garrido and his wife Nancy have since pleaded guilty to their crimes. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Stated First United States Edition. Fine DJ. "From the celebrated biographer of Nancy Mitford, and Evelyn Waugh: a full and fascinating biography--the very first--of the long-admired and universally-acclaimed English writer. When Sybille Bedford died in 2006 at the age of 94, she had written ten books, including four novels and a biography of Aldous Huxley. Her novels--the last of which was shortlisted for the Booker--all fictionalized her extraordinarily colorful, peripatetic life and dramatic family history. Born just outside Berlin, she lived alternately in Baden, the south of France, New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Rome and London. As an adolescent she was mentored by Aldous Huxley . . . Martha Gellhorn convinced her to write her first novel, A Legacy, which would finally be published in 1956 . . . in the 1960s she wrote for magazines and newspapers, covering nearly 100 trials including that of Auschwitz officials, and Jack Ruby's for the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald . . . she was an important figure in the lesbian community in Europe and America . . . and though she often found herself in dire financial straits, her life was just as often underwritten by devoted men or her women lovers. She was possessed of a fierce intelligence, wit, curiosity, compassion, and unstinting engagement with all the vagaries and variety of life. And Selina Hastings has brilliantly captured the woman and the writer in all the richness of her character and achievements." - Publisher. Size: 8vo.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. 115 pages, illustrations, portraits; 25 x 26 cm. Near fine. Tight, clean copy. Spine slightly faded, age toning. OVERSIZE! No priority/air, except by special arrangement. Kurt Koegler (d. 1996) was a New York attorney who started collecting photographic portraits of American Indians in 1979. "Over one hundred photographs from the renowned Kurt Koegler collection of Native American portraits taken between the end of the Civil War and the end of World War I are featured in this powerful compendium depicting a proud and defeated people. Native American Portraits presents a factual, anecdotal, and visual history of the evolving artistry and technology of a century of photographers, as well as of the tribes whose vanishing trappings and traditions they sought to capture with their craft. The photographers -- William Henry Jackson, Camillus Fly, Carleton Watkins, and Lee Moorhouse, among scores of others -- were intrepid adventurers, fiercely committed to their work, who hauled hundreds of pounds of photographic equipment across the mountains and faced many dangers; their subjects -- including such important warriors as Sitting Bull, Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce, Red Cloud, Geronimo, and Chief Gall (who led the Indians to victory against Custer) -- appear venerable, dignified, and beaten. Fascinating and provocative, this richly illustrated and painstakingly annotated volume documents the intersection of photography in its infancy and Native American culture in precipitous decline. / Nancy Hathaway is the author of The Unicorn, as well as many articles on photography, art, psychology, and other topics for a variety of magazines, including Harper's Bazaar, New Woman, American Way, and the Los Angeles Times Syndicate. She lives in Venice, California." - Publisher. Size: Oblong.
