Soft cover. Condition: Fine. Sydney, Australia: Andromeda Spaceways Publishing Co-Operative Ltd, 2005. First Edition. Two small coffee-colored spots, otherwise Fine magazine wraps. This 56 page booklet was edited by fans who were tired of Australian writers not getting the attention they deserved when the World Fantasy Awards were dominated by Americans who frequently didn't even know who the Aussies were. The booklet was distributed to Award judges and at conventions to get the word out about a very active publishing scene Down Under, and also assisted in the Ditmar Awards. Arranged alphabetically, each page is dedicated to a single author. Introduction by Nix and Strahan. The catalog was issued five years running, and for this work Jonathan Strahan, Garth Nix, Deborah Biancotti and Trevor Stafford shared the Best Professional Achievement category of the Ditmar Award in 2008. Despite that this is a big part of Australian f/sf history, relatively few copies of these catalogs were saved, the fate of so much ephemera.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Theodore Sturgeon Award finalist, 2010 A. Bertram Chandler Award for Outstanding Achievement in SF, 2010 \*\*\* 'The Qualia Engine' is a worthy addition to the long line of superman-in-hiding stories that stretches all the way back to Olaf Stapledon, with notable stops along the way. A dense story with a rich nougat vein of well-observed human emotion. Gardner Dozois, Locus \*\*\* Sharply told, very funny at times, and ultimately very powerful. Rich Horton, Locus \*\*\* From the infinite universes of quantum theory to the mysteries of mind and heart, from mythic depths to the end of humanity, Damien Broderick speaks all the voices of SF in a bravura display of storytelling. In this first US collection of his best short stories, the multi-award winning Dean of Australian Science Fiction takes us to a dozen worlds at the limits of imagination. \*\*\* Tactile details are integral to Broderick's work. They offer a window into the minds of his characters. But he won't spoon-feed you. This is fiction that is smart and takes an engaged reader to get all the layers. As you read this book, you'll find that every story is an exploration of a different facet of that most important element of being human. Not just emotions, or pain or even love, but consciousness. Together, this collection creates its own Qualia Engine. Mary Robinette Kowal, winner of the 2008 John W. Campbell Award \*\*\* 'This Wind Blowing, and This Tide' is a beautiful story. The speculation is fascinating, but the heart of the story is a single father mourning his dead son (as signaled by the perfect title, taken from Rudyard Kipling). Rich Horton, Locus \*\*\* Making a welcome splash with some fine new stories. Jonathan Strahan, The Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of the Year.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition, Special Edition. "The Best of Larry Niven" by Larry Niven and edited by Jonathan Strahan. Published by Subterranean Press in 2010. SIGNED BY LARY NIVEN ON THE TITLE PAGE. The book and dust jacket are in fine condition and have never been read. First printing of the first deluxe edition hardcover. The dust jacket is now protected in a removable archival quality mylar sleeve. With the publication of his first story, 'The Coldest Place', in 1964 Larry Niven launched one of the most important careers in the history of science fiction. Over the next decade his stunning hard science fiction won four short fiction Hugo Awards and both the Hugo and Nebula Awards for his all-time classic novel, Ringworld. But it was the short stories that amazed and astounded first. Stories like 'The Coldest Place', 'Becalmed in Hell', 'Neutron Star', and 'All the Myriad Ways' set the boundaries for 'Known Space', one of science fiction s grandest future histories, while Niven also explored the classic tavern story in his 'Draco's Tavern' sequence and even fantasy in his 'Magic Goes Away' stories. Astoundingly, there has never been a single compendium the focused solely on Niven's best short fiction until now. The Best of Larry Niven collects no less than twenty seven stories written over a period of thirty-five years, bringing together some of the best-loved stories in science fiction for the first time, along with some overlooked classics. Whether this is your first time in Known Space or you're visiting old friends in Draco's Tavern, The Best of Larry Niven is unforgettable. Signed by Author(s).
