Paperback. Condition: Very Good. When millionaire banker, Preston Still, kills his wife's lover by pushing him down the stairs, he looks to the family au-pair to help him dispose of the body. But the au pair belongs to the Saint Zita Society, a self-formed group of drivers, nannies and gardeners, who are servants to the rich - and whose intentions are not entirely benign. Accident murder, illicit affairs, and a young man recently released from a hospital for the criminally insane come together with devastating consequences in Ruth Rendell's gripping new crime novel. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Book
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine to Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. A late, stand-alone from Rendell, winner of three Edgar Awards, in which she details the lives and loves of the residents of an upper-class London street, including the servants and including Dex, gardener to several families, who believes in the commands of the god-like voice on his cell phone. First U.S. Edition, first printing (as stated, with complete number line). About 6 x 9 1/4 inches, 257 pages in red paper-covered boards with black backstrip and silver lettering on spine. The dustjacket's front panel shows a just-snuffed-out candle with smoke trailing from wick against a black background with red and white lettering on front panel and spine. Back panel contains five blurbs of praise for Rendell and previous works. With exception of a faint, u-shaped crease in bottom edge margin on last few pages of text (as if paper clip may have been used as bookmark), boards and text are without noticeable flaws or damage. No tears, no bumping or chipping. Book is complete, clean and unmarked. Not ex-library or remaindered. Dustjacket panels show only a touch of shelfwear and some rubbing. Dj's inside flaps show tiny crease on back flap, somewhat larger one on front. Not price-clipped. A very decent copy of a novel that received praise from reviewers on both sides of the Atlantic.

Super octavo softcover (VG+); all our specials have minimal description to keep listing them viable. They are at least reading copies, complete and in reasonable condition, but usually secondhand; frequently they are superior examples. Ordering more than one book will reduce your overall postage cost.
