Meanwhile the Iranians are unleashing an Ebola virus threat on the country. Jack Ryan, CIA agent, is cast in the middle of this maelstrom. Because of a recent sex scandal, Ryan was appointed vice president, a slot he doesn't hold for long when he lands in the Chief Executive's chair. Paperback. Condition: Very Good. The Teeth of the Tiger is the first Jack Ryan Jr novel by Tom Clancy. Just before Jack Ryan stepped down as US President, he created a secret organisation designed to operate in areas where the CIA and FBI couldn't go - able to use any and all means to neutralise terrorists who threatened America. Now his son, Jack Ryan, Jr, is part of that organisation and he's on the front line when a group of Islamic terrorists backed up by Colombian drug smuggles strike at the heart of American society. With no conventional way to hit back at the shadowy ringleaders, it's left to Jack Ryan Jr to take on the terrorists the only way he knows how . . . Internationally bestselling author Tom Clancy first introduced Jack Ryan Jr in The Teeth of the Tiger, returning to his story in Dead or Alive and Locked On. Threat Vector, the fourth thriller in the gripping series, will be available from Penguin in December 2012. Praise for Tom Clancy: 'Incredibly addictive . . . 400 tightly woven, adrenalin-fuelled pages' Daily Mail 'Truly riveting, a dazzling read' Sunday Express 'Heart-stopping action . . . entertaining and eminently topical' Washington Post 'Classic Clancy . . . well-constructed tension and realistic action' Short List 'Exhilarating. No other novelist is giving so full a picture of modern conflict' Sunday Times Thirty years ago Tom Clancy was a Maryland insurance broker with a passion for naval history. Years before, he had been an English major at Baltimore's Loyola College and had always dreamed of writing a novel. His first effort, The Hunt for Red October, sold briskly as a result of rave reviews, then catapulted on to the New York Times bestseller list after President Reagan pronounced it 'the perfect yarn'. From that day forward, Clancy established himself as an undisputed master at blending exceptional realism and authenticity, intricate plotting, and razor-sharp suspense. He passed away in October 2013. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Book Club (BCE/BOMC). Book club edition. Ink name on endpaper. 2002 Hard Cover. 618 pp. "Long before he was President or head of the CIA, before he fought terrorist attacks on the Super Bowl or the White House, even before a submarine named Red October made its perilous way across the Atlantic, Jack Ryan was an historian, teacher, and recent ex-Marine temporarily living in England while researching a book. A series of deadly encounters with an IRA splinter group had brought him to the attention of the CIA's Deputy Director, Vice Admiral James Greer-as well as his counterpart with the British SIS, Sir Basil Charleston-and when Greer asked him if he wanted to come aboard as a freelance analyst, Jack was quick to accept. The opportunity was irresistible, and he was sure he could fit it in with the rest of his work. And then Jack forgot all about the rest of his work, because one of his first assignments was to help debrief a high-level Soviet defector, and the defector told an amazing tale: Top Soviet officials, including Yuri Andropov, were planning to assassinate the Pope, John Paul II. Could it be true' As the days and weeks go by, Ryan must battle, first to try to confirm the plot, and then to prevent it, but this is a brave new world, and nothing he has done up to now has prepared him for the lethal game of cat-and-mouse that is the Soviet Union versus the United States. In the end, it will be not just the Pope's life but the stability of the Western world that is at stake. and it may already be too late for a novice CIA analyst to do anything about it. "Clancy creates not only compelling characters but frighteningly topical situations and heart-stopping action," wrote The Washington Post about The Bear and the Dragon. "Among the handful of superstars, Clancy still reigns, and he is not likely to be dethroned any time soon." These words were never truer than about the remarkable pages of his breathtaking new novel. This is the story of the author's life in Montana in the 1920's when, having lost his heart to the country, he decides to buckle down and go to work. Meeting up with Tom Bryan, son of wealth and pretty much a black sheep, he lands at the Whites' rundown spread and, after several casts, settles for partnership with Al. A buying expedition in a blizzard, the spring roundup, the building of a house when he claims a homestead and the acquisition of Fred, who takes on the job of watchdog and minister of finance, put Randolph in business; he meets a wolfer but doesn't learn his secrets of trapping; he hears the stories of the local people and gets involved in Bryan's escapades; the herd is taken to Omaha and sold, and eventually, the partnership is dissolved. A flamboyance which gives way to buoyancy and a recall of youthful zest and admitted ignorance make this a personal history filled with colorful characters and incidents. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. 'We never talked about what happened in 1992. Did it quietly haunt him the way it did me?'In the small seaside town of Queenscliff, two boys from opposite sides of the world forge a friendship over a summer of sun, adventure and brotherhood. Until a catastrophic event shatters their idyllic childhoods. Two lives are lost. A lie is told.Years later, when Tom dies in suspicious circumstances, Drew flies from the US back to Australia for his friend's funeral. Still haunted by that night in 1992, he's about to find out if Tom ever told anyone the truth, if the two events are connected, and if their friendship was worth the price they paid.Told with Davies' trademark emotional depth and sensitivity, The Broken Wave is a compelling mystery about the long tentacles of childhood trauma, finding connection in the least expected places and the unbreakable bond of friendship.Praise for The Broken Wave'In The Broken Wave, an American writer struggles with his difficult second novel. Matthew Ryan Davies would seem to have no such problem: this second novel is a taut and compassionate examination of the way the people we know as children mark us forever. As it builds to its devastating conclusion, The Broken Wave will leave you breathless.' - Hayley Scrivenor'The Broken Wave drags you in from its first pages and refuses to let go. Flowing with ease between idyllic past and haunted present, it builds an irresistible mystery suffused with all-too-real pain and melancholy. Don't miss it.' - Gabriel Bergmoser'Superbly characterised and almost unbearably tense, The Broken Wave had me both holding my breath and turning the pages. Davies writes with assurance and empathy, transporting the reader through one golden childhood summer to a shocking tragedy that will ricochet down the years. Haunting and heartfelt, I am still thinking about The Broken Wave weeks after finishing it.' - Kylie Ladd'Unlike anything else you'll read this year. A gripping page-turner that had my heart racing as the story unfolded. The shocking revelation will stay with you a long time.' - Peter Papathanasiou Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Long before he was President or head of the CIA, before he fought terrorist attacks on the Super Bowl or the White House, even before a submarine named Red October made its perilous way across the Atlantic, Jack Ryan was an historian, teacher, and recent ex-Marine temporarily living in England while researching a book. A series of deadly encounters with an IRA splinter group had brought him to the attention of the CIA s Deputy Director, Vice Admiral James Greer as well as his counterpart with the British SIS, Sir Basil Charleston and when Greer asked him if he wanted to come aboard as a freelance analyst, Jack was quick to accept. The opportunity was irresistible, and he was sure he could fit it in with the rest of his work. And then Jack forgot all about the rest of his work, because one of his first assignments was to help debrief a high-level Soviet defector, and the defector told an amazing tale: Top Soviet officials, including Yuri Andropov, were planning to assassinate the Pope, John Paul II.Could it be true? As the days and weeks go by, Ryan must battle, first to try to confirm the plot, and then to prevent it, but this is a brave new world, and nothing he has done up to now has prepared him for the lethal game of cat-and-mouse that is the Soviet Union versus the United States. In the end, it will be not just the Pope s life but the stability of the Western world that is at stake. . . and it may already be too late for a novice CIA analyst to do anything about it. Clancy creates not only compelling characters but frighteningly topical situations and heart-stopping action, wrote The Washington Post about The Bear and the Dragon. Among the handful of superstars, Clancy still reigns, and he is not likely to be dethroned any time soon. These words were never truer than about the remarkable pages of his breathtaking new novel. This is Clancy at his best and there is none better.

DJ has slight wear and soiling. The author was a successful free-lance writer and communications consultant in New York City. He had been a reporter, an editor, a writer, and a teacher. His book, The Game They Played named in 1987 by Sports Illustrated as among the twenty-five books no sports fan should be without. Derived from a Kirkus review: A literate and likable work that recaptures much of the excitement generated by baseball's New York Mets in their first championship season. Cohen offers a week-by-week account of how the National League Club ended seven years of futility by winning the pennant and then beating the Baltimore Orioles four straight times, after dropping the opener, to win the 1969 World Series. Cohen points out, the lovable losers bypassed mediocrity on their way to the top. Cohen goes on to say that the odds-against triumph seems a lot less unlikely than it did at the time. For one thing, the expansion club had talented youngsters on the threshold of stardom, plus productive veterans and role players--Don Cardwell, Cleon Jones, Jerry Koosman, Tug McGraw, Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver, et al. For another, manager Gil Hodges proved a master at juggling lineups and keeping his charges fresh throughout a long season. Of the 25 players on the Mets' 1969 roster, Cohen interviewed all but two. Cohen's evocative text provides fine fare for nostalgia buffs as well as for Mets' rooters. First Edition [Stated], First Printing [Stated].

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - On a warm, quiet morning in a speck of a town near the Mexican border, an old man stops at an airstream diner and orders coffee. When the owner of the diner appears, the old man shoots him to death, pays his bill, and drives away. The sheriff, Leo Murphy is called in to investigate the murder. His instincts lead him to his brother, Ryan. The black sheep of the family, Ryan Murphy lives just south in Mexico. He makes a living as a coyote, moving illegal cargo across the border. The brothers have an arrangement regarding Ryan's illegal enterprise: Don't ask, don't tell. When the old man's car breaks down in the middle of the desert Leo takes him into custody. If only things had gone according to Ryan's plan. Now a cold-blooded killer named Wicked Bill is on his way from Miami to help Ryan clean things up. The Murphy brothers need to redefine the lines they will and won't cross to protect each other and those closest to them from interlopers on both sides of the law. In True Dark, Mike Miner has created a vivid and dangerous world. Praise for TRUE DARK: 'Admirers of Mike Miner's previous novels will undergo quick conversions to devoted fans when they read True Dark. Everything Miner does well-the spare dialogue loaded to within an inch of mercy, a story that doesn't so much unfold as uncoil, breathtaking tension-he has sharpened to a masterful art in True Dark. That Miner does this without ever letting go of your heart, no matter how jaded, is the mark of emerging genius.' -James Anderson, author of The Never-Open Desert Diner and Lullaby Road 'A carefully calibrated and complex page-turner that cascades over generations and decades without ever losing intensity. Miner keeps upping his game. Plot lines, eras, and characters interlace effortlessly in a well-crafted page-turner. Miner's skills have out-paced his peers. True Dark is a perfect crime novel.' -Tom Pitts, author of 101 and American Static.
