No Binding. Condition: Very Good. The way he's studying the caption, I don't believe he plans to cheer up. This encouraging admonition was on half a dozen different postcards around 1906, but no one seems to know where it comes from, attributing it either to Philander Johnson, who used it in 1920, or Mark Twain, who used it in a short story that wasn't published until after his death in 1910 (when this card was mailed). In any case, its general cheer and optimism have been, er, appreciated by many, including this lad.

Mass Market Paperback. Condition: Fair. No Stock Photos! We photograph every item. Heavy spine and edge wear, cover creasing, surface tear from sticker. Finally returned to print in a beautiful new trade paperback edition, comes Joyce Carol Oates' lost classic: a satirical, often surreal, and beautifully plotted Gothic Romance that follows the exploits of the audacious Zinn sisters, whose 19th century pursuit of adventurous lives turns a lens on contemporary American culture. Set in a nineteenth century similar to our own, A Bloodsmoor Romance follows the beautiful Zinn sisters, five young women who refuse--for the most part--â? the obligations of Christian marriage.â? Full of Oates's mordant wit and breathlessly told in the Victorian style by an unnamed narrator shocked by the Zinn sisters' sexuality, impulsivity, and rude rejection of the mores of their time, A Bloodsmoor Romance is a delicious filigree of literary conventions, â??a novel of mannersâ? in the tradition of Austen, Dickens, and Alcott which Oates turns on its head. Oates's dark romp interweaves murder and mayhem, ghosts, and abductions, substance abuse and gender identity, women's suffrage, the American spiritualist movement, and sexual aberration, as the Zinn sisters come into contact with some of the 19th century's greatest characters, from Mark Twain to Oscar Wilde. A biting assessment of the American landscape and a virtuosic transformation of a literary genre, A Bloodsmoor Romance is a compelling, hilarious, and magical anti-romance--Little Women by way of Stephen King.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Classic literature is full of them, royals swap jokes about them, a French entertainer made his living from them, and the captain of England's rugby team was dismissed for using the word to describe the team selection committee as a bunch of old. It's the fart of course, a word for which the English language has produced many alternatives, ie; to break wind, parp, let off, blow off, drop one, boof, trump, let one rip, or emit a trouser cough. The Art of the Fart is a collection of anecdotes about a subject that is taboo in polite society, but has a wide appreciation none the less. How else could you account for the popularity of the whoopee cushion? Interspersed with the stories on rear end eructions are a series of classic black and white film stills for which the singular caption would be, "So, who farted?" The art of the fart draws from among others, Chaucer, Shakespeare, The Simpsons, Monty Python, Mark Twain, and the diaries of Samuel "I care not a fart for it" Pepys. Paperback. Condition: Very Good. From the bestselling author of eight novels, including Run with the Horsemen. Each of these novella-length tales focuses on an epiphany-a revelation born of an unlikely interchange. A quixotic old doctor who loves poetry and battles bureaucracy talks with his new patient, an ex-con whose story of racism and injustice changes them both. The mettle of a man's 40-year marriage is examined when he and his wife, on an expedition to gather wild plants, survive a series of odd accidents and strange encounters in the remote Georgia mountains. A group of smart-alecky high school seniors interviews the town's oldest citizen and learns a lesson or two about the not-so-good (but maybe not-so-bad) old days and the bonds that can bridge generations. In Epiphany, Ferrol Sams once again displays the warmth, humor, and wisdom that have delighted readers and earned him many a comparison to Mark Twain. In typical Sams style, the three stories . . . are written with humor and heart. He is a master storyteller.-Macon Telegraph. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
