review 1: I like Wayne Dyer. I think he's helped a lot of people. He can sometimes write quite well, and that occasionally surfaces here. Most of the book has a high-handed tone (not helped by using the present tense), and attempts at introspection often come off as preachy. I wouldn't recommend this unless you're already a Dyer fan, in which case you're probably already familiar with much of the material. I would have also enjoyed more details of his personal biography. He focuses on his spiritual development and the mentors that have shaped him, leaving out many details of a traditional autobiography. I did find many sections inspiring, but if he had followed the writing cliche of "show don't tell," the book might have been a little less self-congratulatory.

... moreSo far I'm not super-impressed, but hopefully this gets a lot better. Maybe by the end of this book I will be a total spiritual hippy. END OF THE BOOKI'm glad I read this book. It is certainly out of the ordinary and a different read for me. Audible.com had a sale where I picked it up.After living in Latin America I realize that the spiritual realm is outside our European culture. Listening to a non-Catholic claim to have been transfigured into Saint Francis of Asisi is certainly unusual for me. It's also good for me to be exposed to things like this. I'm certainly a huge fan of positive thinking. Dyer certainly gave me a lot to think about--for example, Dyer doesn't eat meat because he wants to surround himself with positive vibes, and eating meat is inconsistent with this philosophy because the animals are scared before they are slaughtered. That's a pretty fascinating concept that I've never thought about.Dyer also claims to heal himself through the power of positive thinking. I'm open to that idea, even though I don't necessarily believe it. I've seen attorneys in great times of stress mentally not allow their bodies to get sick. That being said, Steve Jobs couldn't cure himself of cancer and he seemed to hold similar beliefs as Dyer.I think Dyer's goal setting and thoughtful setting of his goals is powerful stuff for sure and I'm glad I listened to this book. Next book I listen to in this genre will be Victor Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning." less
