review 1: Having seen the movie The Intouchables, a french film about a tetrapalegic man and his auxillary I wanted to know more about the men and their lives. This book is written by Abdel Sellou, the auxillary, and he describes his life both before and after meeting Philippe Pozzo di Borgo. It was an easy read. Simply written in a tone that was more like talking to a friend about life experience. I enjoyed the movie and this book and look forward to reading the memoir written by Philippe Pozzo di Borgo.
review 2: A couple weeks ago I watched a wonderful movie from France, called "The Intouchables" a movie about two men who developed a friendship. I found out that each man wrote a memoir of their lives.I bought both and read them at the same time. I aleady reviewed Phi
... morellippe Pozzo Di Borgos memoir. this one is Abdel Sellou.Abdel Sellou and "pozzo" di Borgo had a documentary then a movie done about them, because of their remarkable friendship. Abdel became a caregiver to "pozzo'DiBorgo soon after Mr. Borgo became a quadriplegic after a paragliding accident. at the time Abdel had just been released from jail after spending his youth in trouble with the law.he has to try and find work and ends up at the home of Borgo's for a job as a caregiver to mr.Borgo. He is hired for a one week trial and end up working there on and off for ten years. Abdel Sellou was born in Algeria and sent to France to live with and aunt and Uncle. while growing up he was pretty much an outcast getting in trouble with the law as a "small time crook and con artist' he is angry and tough and has been many fights with those who angered him. After starting his work with "pozzo" who grew up wealthy and until his accident was independent. at the same time Pozzo's wife Beatrice was dying of cancer. Abdel and Pozzo formed an unlikely friendship. Abdel helped Pozzo though the death of his wife. got him out in the world. they are still friends to this day. I like stories about "unlikely friendships" and this one is good. Abdel was very honest about his life not sugar coating his life. or painting himself as a saint. a nicely written book. i was glad I got to read Abdel's side of his story. less
