I loved book one and, though I loved book two I felt it strayed into too much action and not enough characterization. But this book is right back up there with the first! I was surprised to find the plot building quite heavily on book two (which, still left me a bit confused as to who was who sometimes since I had a hard time following some of the history in book two). But, overall I love the questions of who is guilty, who is lying to who, and how various characters have different motives.There are some wonderful new characters and wonderful new magical abilities and items, and of course, another dangerous mission for Valkyrie and Skulduggery. But, their ability to carry out their mission becomes increasingly difficult when the Sanctuary turns its back on them.I listen to the audio books, narrated by the fantastic Rupert Degas! His narration makes the story come alive. The humor, wit, and emotion are in perfect balance!While this series would have definitely been a bit too gruesome for me as a young adult reader (though I'm sure many would be completely fine with it), I never find the books to feel "dark" - instead, the positiveness of both Valkyrie and Skulduggery keep it quite the opposite!
I don't have any words except WOW. Skulduggery Pleasant, The Faceless Ones, was so captivating to me that I read the whole thing twice in the period of a month. (May not seem like much, but that's pretty fast for me) I read it over just to be sure I wasn't missing anything, or that I didn't get any facts wrong.*SPOILERS AHEAD, BEWARE!!!!*When Skulduggery was taken through the gateway, I didn't know what to think. I haven't found any of the books come after this one yet, and the ending left me with sort of an empty feeling. I'm full of adrenaline for the rest of the books!
Best in the series so far, I cannot wait to see where this goes!
