Can I just say, the writing style is quite amateur and eye-rolling worthy. Also, I can't stand it when a female character, especially the protagonist, needs to be frequently rescued like a damsel in distress. The concept is exhausting! I recognize that the author is really trying hard to tackle issues with rape, but it was done quite poorly. Why introduce such a hard hitting issue when you are only going to be tiptoeing around the aftermath. There were a few times when I found myself shaking my head at the dialogue discussing the rape. Honestly, I enjoy this book for pure entertainment value, the chemistry between the Avery & Cam were perfect. This new adult novel has only survived my critique strictly for the reason that I loved the dynamic between the characters. It was solely character-driven.

If I were to rate this book solely on writing style, vocabulary, etc then I would most definitely give this book 1 star. Due to the fact that I enjoyed the plot, characters and the romance between Cam and Avery, I eventually gave in and put this book at 3 stars. Unfortunately a book is a lot more than characters and romance and there is nothing I hate more than grammatical errors, spelling issues and sentences that are missing verbs. I will not be reading the rest in the series. There are too many phenomenal books out there that actually take the time to be edited. Sorry if this is a bit harsh but an editor is pretty important, regardless if it's independently published or not.
