I don't normally read memoirs, and I read this one because I was trying to do some research on what life is like on a farm. Kristin Kimball manages to make it sound terribly romantic and totally unglamorous simultaneously... an impressive feat. I also LOVE how she describes the food they make (reminds me a bit of "Eat Pray Love" in that way), and I was intrigued by the romantic-yet-gritty-and-real way that she describes her love story with her husband. Definitely a good read for book clubs.
When the “city girl” author interviews a farmer, she finds herself in a life she never imagined. They fall in love, she leaves the city and they move to a neglected farm to start an organic co-op. She knows nothing about growing vegetables, raising pigs and cattle or driving horses. The house is such terrible shape, they are basically camping out. But the community embraces them and they are home.
This book was interesting and honest, I think I'm just burned out on this type of memoir.
Highly fascinating read for anyone interested in local food or living the dirty life.
Good read, brought me back to my farm roots!
