This novel is not your run-of-the-mill romance novel. It is more about how closed off Lucien had become as a person over the years since Zoe's disappearance and Gerard's death rather than about Zoe Octavia recovery and reintegration into Ton society. The pacing is slow and very disembodied reflecting Lucien's distance. However, as his character develops, the story line becomes more active rather than the passive pace; completely reflecting Lucien's change. Zoe is an interesting character though she's really a secondary character and mainly serves Lucien's story. She's still interesting and does involve a lot of suspension of disbelief but still Chase does a great job weaving it.I can see the pacing may put people off but I really enjoyed how the passiveness reflected the character's passivity and developed into a more active voice when Lucien become more actively engaged.

I read to page 326 but I just couldn't finish it. Lucien de Grey was interesting at first but became/was revealed to be irresponsible for all the charitable works he did (said with super heavy sarcasm). He was only interested in keeping his boredom going. And that's just the thinnest surface layer. Zoe was so CHILDISH! Running off, doing as she pleased, popping off, THROWING THINGS. Oh, and both characters need to be careful not to breast heir arms patting themselves on the back. Ugh!
