I really enjoyed this book! Part of what made it so interesting for me was the fact the the heroine was deaf and that's not something you come across in a romance often. When it comes to historical romance I usually go for writers like Lynsay Sands, Hannah Howell and Julie Garwood. This book definitely fell into that group style for me. The reason is simple--I like my characters to also like each other. Where their problems come from an outside source, not created by themselves. I have a hard time understanding what a reader gets out of a book where the H & h hate each other until the last 3 pages because of their lack of simple communication. By that point I also usually also hate them and tend to find myself rooting against them ;) That's why this one was so enjoyable for me. Tension I don't mind, unnecessary (w)angst I do...There are a lot of secondary characters involved here that I look forward to reading about in future books of this series.

Really, a 4.21 rating on this? Not even close. The writing feels like something that is done by someone learning to write their first book. It's school-girlish and amateurish. There's no depth in the character's dialogue. Lots of repetition of the same fears and concerns over and over. It just got to be redundant and silly, and I finally gave up. I even fell asleep in the middle of the sex scenes. :P

A good story with a different twist. I really enjoyed it.
